LOUIS, Mo. - The La Salle men's soccer team fought hard in its second game in as many days, but dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision to second-seeded George Washington with less than three minutes remaining in double overtime in an Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinal game at Saint Louis University on Friday.

The Explorers end their 2011 season at 7-9-4, while the Colonials (10-6-2) advance to the Atlantic 10 title game on Sunday and will face sixth-seeded and defending champion Xavier.

Although the Explorers outshot the Colonials 17-9 in regulation, the Colonials dominated the overtime periods and outshot the Explorers 8-1 in the extra time. The deciding goal came at the 107:55 mark when Joe Holleran flicked the ball to Farhan Khan, who scored into the right side of the net from close range for his first career goal.

GW drew first blood on a 17th minute goal by Yoni Berhanu, who took a pass from Jake Davis and put the ball into the left side of the net for his 11th goal of the season.

The Explorers tied it up in the 42nd minute on a <dfn jquery16406203543627273971="12">Rob McIntyre</dfn> goal. <dfn jquery16406203543627273971="13">Andrew Lill</dfn> took a long free kick, finding McIntyre in the box, who then headed the ball over GW keeper Brendan Lafferty. The goal was McIntyre's second of the season.

The Blue & Gold nearly went up 2-1 in the second half when <dfn jquery16406203543627273971="14">Jidell Roach</dfn> put the ball in the net, but the goal was waved off due to a foul.

Overall, the Explorers edged the Colonials 18-17 in shots and GW held a slim 4-3 advantage on corner kicks. <dfn jquery16406203543627273971="15">Jason Plumhoff</dfn> led the Explorers with six shots and Berhanu paced the Colonials with five.

<dfn jquery16406203543627273971="16">John McCarthy</dfn> registered five saves in net for the Explorers and Lafferty picked up six.

################################################################################################

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men’s soccer team wrapped up an Atlantic 10 Tournament berth for the second straight year with a commanding 4-0 win over rival Saint Joseph’s on Sunday afternoon at Finnessey Field. The Explorers improve to 6-8-4 overall and 4-2-3 in the Atlantic 10, while the Hawks finish their season at 2-15 (1-8 A-10). The Explorers captured a No. 5 seed and will play in a rematch game with fourth-seeded Temple on Thursday at 8:30 PM Eastern (7:30 PM Central) at Saint Louis University.

With the clinching of the tournament berth, the squad became the third La Salle team to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament this season, joining women’s soccer and field hockey as tournament participants as well as both cross country squads which won their respective championship.. La Salle is the only Atlantic 10 school to put three teams in the postseason tournament this season.

The Explorers and Hawks were scoreless at the half before the Blue and Gold exploded for four second half goals, two of which were set up by sophomore <dfn jquery16402761789409983854="12">Jason Plumhoff</dfn> who finished the regular season with 18 points. D’Ottavi stopped seven shots while suffering the loss for the Hawks.

The win marks the fourth time the Explorers have downed the Hawks in their last five meetings. The Explorers have also wrapped up another terrific Atlantic 10 season and are 10-4-4 in the past two seasons combined in league play.

"It’s a real special time around here right now," Head Coach <dfn jquery16402761789409983854="18">Pat Farrell</dfn> said. "We’re playing at a whole new level. He shares the honor with Villanova’s Kyle Soroka.

Teel sparked the Explorers to a 3-2 double overtime victory over Saint Louis on Sunday to help the team remain unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play. Facing a two-goal deficit with less than 15 minutes remaining, Teel scored twice within 24 seconds to knot the score at 2-2. The goals were his second and third of the season. The two goals sent the game to overtime, where <dfn jquery16404327237555018504="13">Dan Korenyi</dfn> eventually scored the game winner in the 102nd minute.

Teel’s first goal came off of a pass from <dfn jquery16404327237555018504="14">Rob Friskey</dfn>. Teel was near the right post, took the pass and sank the ball just inside the post. His second one just 24 seconds later came when Korenyi found him in the middle of the field and Teel headed the ball over the Saint Louis keeper and into the net.

The Explorers are now 5-1-3 in their last nine games and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0-3. They are in a three-way tie for first place with 12 points.

The team returns to action on Friday at Fordham as part of a doubleheader in the Bronx with the women’s squad. The men kick off at 5:00 PM.

The ‘Nor’easter Academy’ has been designed to enhance player development and provide a national stage to showcase youth players throughout southern New Jersey.

“I am delighted to announce the launch of ‘The Nor’easter Academy’, said OCFC General Manager Neil Holloway. “The Nor’easter Academy will be comprised of two Super Y-League memberships/clubs. One based in the Glassboro, Gloucester County, New Jersey to service youth players in the south west area of New Jersey.

The second club will be our already established Ocean City program based in Ocean City, Cape May County, New Jersey to service the youth players in the south east area of New Jersey”.

The 2012 Super Y-League launch of the Glassboro Elite Nor’easters in southwestern New Jersey shows the growth and structure that Ocean City FC is continuing to build. In turn, this will add another competitive club and well-rounded organization to the Super Y-League Mid Atlantic Division”, announced Brian D’Amico, Senior Director of Youth League Development for the United Soccer Leagues.

Since the re-branding of the Ocean City senior franchise in 2010, which saw the club launch the Nor’easter name for the men’s Premier Development League team, the club has focused its youth development program on creating partnerships and providing professional coaching expertise to already established local township soccer organizations, and enhancing player development opportunities through it’s Super Y-League and summer teams.

The current 2011 OCFC Super Y-League and summer teams are made up of players from local township clubs such as; Mainland United, Upper Township, Ocean City, Cape Express, Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic United, and Hamilton Township. Through a partnership with AC Premier, the only truly girl’s soccer program in southern New Jersey, OCFC is fielding numerous girl’s team in the Super Y-League. “We are very proud of the relationships and partnerships we have established in the Cape May and Atlantic counties”, commented Holloway, “Through working with these clubs we have been able to establish a successful development model that sees us not compete with these clubs in the fall and spring, but enhance them through our professional coaching services and provide the players a place to play on our Super Y-League and summer teams. We will continue with this model for the Ocean City Nor’easter in the 2012 season”.

The launch of the Glassboro Elite Nor’easters has evolved through the existing relationship with the already established Glassboro Elite program that sees the OCFC professional coaches provide training services for a number of Glassboro Elite teams, and the u15 and u17 boys competing in the Super Y-League this summer.

“Over the years we have worked closely with the Ocean City organization and their coaches”, remarked Duane Teel, Glassboro Elite President. “They have provided us quality training and also an immense knowledge of what it takes to bring a player up to the next level. We see our partnership with them in the Super Y-League as positive step for our club and for those players whose goal is to play soccer in college”.

The Glassboro Elite Nor’easters will be located in the heart of Gloucester County, next to Rowan University. Glassboro is the largest city in Gloucester County perfectly located to service youth players from all over the south west region of New Jersey. The recent Rowan development has seen a revitalization of the Glassboro area and the infrastructure (Route 322 route 55) allows easy access for players from Cumberland, Salem, Camden and Burlington Counties. “Players throughout these counties will now be given the opportunity to play in the Super Y-League program which has some of the top competition in the country. Our players will be playing against top teams and clubs from Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey”, added Teel, “It also means players will no longer have to travel to Central Jersey and beyond to find top flight competition in the Super Y-League. We believe our program will also be at a more competitive cost than you can find in Central or North Jersey”.

The Glassboro Elite Nor’easters will be looking to strengthen existing relationships with other local townships clubs and create new relationships using the same player development model Ocean City has used in the shore counties.

Both the Ocean City and Glassboro Elite Nor’easters will field year round teams at high school ages u15 – u18. “Most of the local townships clubs do not field teams at the high school ages and we feel this is the right age to take the players on full time and provide them with the structure to fulfill their goals of playing varsity in high school and ultimately play in college” Holloway added.

At the younger age groups, u10 – u14, the Glassboro Elite Nor’easters will look to build upon their current Elite summer program and form relationships similar to the Ocean City model that has seen OCFC currently field u10 – u14 teams.

Glassboro Elite Nor’easters
Location: Glassboro, NJ
Servicing players from: Gloucester, Camden, Cumberland, Burlington and Salem counties
Ages u10, u11 girls and boys: Summer play May – July, training and tournament games
Ages u12, u13, u14 girls and boys: Summer play May – August, training and Super Y-League
Ages u15, u16, u17, u18 girls and boys: Year round play November – August, training, showcase tournaments, JAGS or MAPS league play, NJYS and USCS State Cup, Super Y-League
Tryout Information
Age’s u10, u11, u12, u13, u14 girls and boys: Tryouts will be held during the fall of 2011
Age’s u15, u16, u17, u18: Specific information for each age group can be found at: www.gboroelite.com

Ocean City Nor’easters
Location: Ocean City, NJ
Servicing players from: Cape May and Atlantic counties
Ages u10, u11 girl’s and boys: Summer play May – July, training and tournament games
Ages u12, u13, u14 girls and boys: Summer play May – August, training and Super Y-League
Ages u15, u16, u17, u18 girls and boys: Year round play November – August, training, showcase tournaments, JAGS or MAPS league play, NJYS and USCS State Cup, Super Y-League
Tryout Information
Age’s u10, u11, u12, u13, u14 girls and boys: Tryouts will be held during the fall of 2011
Age’s u15, u16, u17, u18: Specific information for each age group can be found Here

Club relationship information: If your local township team/club would like information on how the Nor’easter Academy can enhance your team/clubs player development and opportunities please contact Neil Holloway at 609-525-9999 or nholloway@oceancityfc.com or Duane Teel at 609-634-4482 or gboroelite@comcast.net
